Feng Shui handles five main elements in order to achieve harmony and balance in any space.  These five feng shui elements are metal, wood, fire, earth and water. Each element has its own characteristics and properties which combine to generate what you wish.

North is Water (Power) which is necessary for the growth of Wood.
Northeast is for knowledge
East is Wood (Protection)  Wood is fuel for Fire.
Southeast is for wealth
South is Fire (Energy) is burned and returns to Earth
Southwest is for relationships
The Center is Earth (Peace) which solidifies into Metal
West is Metal which goes on to create.
Northwest is compassion for others
